How to Get to Seefeld in Tirol and Get Around

Seefeld is one of the easiest mountain resorts in the Alps to reach without a car, thanks to a direct railway that climbs onto the plateau. Here is how to get there and get around.

By train

The train is the best way in. Seefeld sits on the scenic Mittenwaldbahn, so there are direct services from Innsbruck (about 40 minutes) and from Munich (around two hours via Mittenwald and Garmisch-Partenkirchen). Both journeys are beautiful, climbing steadily onto the plateau. From Innsbruck you connect to the wider Austrian and European rail network, so arriving car-free from almost anywhere is realistic.

By car

By road, Seefeld is reached from the Inn valley motorway (the A12) and up the B177 over the Seefelder Sattel, or from the German side via Mittenwald. The roads are well maintained and cleared in winter, but they are mountain roads: allow extra time in snow and carry winter tyres or chains in the cold months.

By air

The nearest airport is Innsbruck, about 30 to 40 minutes away by road or a short transfer plus train. Munich is the larger long-haul gateway, roughly two hours away, with a direct train connection.

Getting around once there

You may not need a car at all. The village centre is compact and largely pedestrianised, local buses link Seefeld with Leutasch, Mösern, Reith and Scharnitz across the Olympiaregion, and the guest card usually includes local transport. Trains run along the plateau to neighbouring villages and down to Innsbruck.
