You are collected from your accommodation before first light and driven to the launch field, where you watch the balloon come to life as the sun starts to rise. The flight itself is about an hour, silent apart from the burner, drifting wherever the morning air takes you over the lake and the valley.
From the basket you look straight down on the island and its church, across to Bled castle, and out to the wall of the Julian Alps with Triglav at its centre. It is the kind of view most people only see from a postcard.
Back on the ground there is a traditional champagne toast and a flight certificate to take home. Daily spots are genuinely limited by the small baskets, so early booking is worth it.
